Enrolling to vote
You’ve just turned 18. The General Election date is set – now it’s up to you to figure out how to become an eligible voter. “First thing to do is enrol,” your koro advises. Should you complete a written form and return it by post? No need, you’ve got a RealMe verified identity. Instead, you log on to vote.nz, click ‘I want to enrol to vote’, answer a few online questions and that’s it. The Electoral Commission approves your enrolment to vote in your first-ever general election.
Now you're 18
You’re about to turn 18. Finally, you can go to gigs, buy drinks, go dancing! But you don’t have a driver licence to prove your age, and you don’t want to take your passport to town. So you apply for a Kiwi Access Card from Hospitality New Zealand, who use DIA’s Identity Check to confirm you’re really you. Brilliant, your card arrives just in time for your birthday.
Driver licence
You pop out in the car to visit a friend. Coming home on a different route, a police checkpoint is doing routine breath tests and checking licences. You pass the breath test, and the officer asks for your licence. Damn, you don't have your wallet. All good - you show her your digital ID in your digital wallet on your phone and drive on home.
